However, killings include a child who drowns when a character throws her into a lake, although it's clear that he doesn't intend to hurt her. Her actual death is not shown, though her father carries her body through his village.

As an 11 y/o, I can tell you that anyone in my grade would be able to read this amazing book, as long as they're patient enough to look up words that they don't understand.
