What are the parts of a tiller? ›

A wide selection of replacement parts for tillers is avaliable from Rotary. Right- and left-hand tiller tines, idler pulleys, oil seals, bushings, hardware kits, tine shafts and reversing discs are all avalialble.

The tines are sharp on the edge, but that isn't the secret to tilling magic. It's the shape of the tines that can take the credit. Each tine consists of four blades curved in opposing directions. Blades one and three are curved pointing in toward the tiller; blades two and four point away from the tiller.

If the ground is more complex and contains clay and rocks, you'll need a tiller that won't be damaged when tilling through the more demanding job. A less powerful tiller can be used with generally soft and loose soil. Check the soil of the area you plan to work with to better determine the rototiller type you'll need.

For most jobs, a tiller depth between four and six inches will prove ideal, as you won't encounter tree roots or rocks which can damage your rototiller. Once you have prepared the correct settings, it's time to till the area. If the soil is compact and hard, start tilling with the shallowest setting.

The Tiller Head is the hardware that attaches directly to the Tiller and allows for connection to the Rudder Head. The Rudder Head is the hardware that attaches to the top of the Rudder Shaft or, on smaller boats, directly to the Rudder itself.
