Was The Lorax banned from schools?
In 1988, 17 years after the book was published, a school district in California banned Seuss's book “The Lorax.” The book tells the story of a character called the Once-ler who cuts down trees to make a garment called the Thneed. The Lorax protests on the behalf of trees and the Bar-ba-loots who eat the trees.
Over the years, the book has been censored for its societal critiques. For example, in the late 1980s, a school district in northern California banned the book over its negative portrayal of the logging industry.
The authorities further believe that the books promote negative foreign behavior, especially on issues such as transgender, gay, lesbianism, bisexuality, intersex, and asexuality. Book stores in Tanzania have been ordered to take the books off their shelves and display racks.

Some school districts aimed to ban the book from schools because they believed the book has unsuitable topics for children to read about. One major complaints was that the story portrayed talking animals that can communicate and act just like humans.
Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham. Beginning in 1965, it was forbidden to read Green Eggs and Ham in Maoist China because of its “portrayal of early Marxism,” and the ban was not lifted until author Theodor Seuss Geisl's death in 1991.
The Wizard of Oz
This may seem an innocent journey, but throughout the twentieth century and across various US states, the book was banned for its strong female characters, use of magic, promotion of socialist values and attribution of human characteristics to animals.

No swear words, mainly namecalling and mild words. Crap is used twice. Rodrick uses it when asking Greg how his first day went (In the TV edit, it is replaced with "Queasy"), and is used by Greg in the beginning of the Halloween scene when he describes his thoughts on Candy Corn.

This Depression-era tragic tale that was praised for its realism is regularly found in the top one hundred of the banned book list published by the American Library Association because of racial slurs, profanity, vulgarity, and offensive language.
Between 1986 and 2000, at least nine different attempts to remove The Catcher in the Rye from schools were based on the novel's use of profanity and sexual references.
