Starting around 2015, device manufacturers started to put barometers in phones, tablets, smart watches, and wearable fitness devices. These tiny, relatively inexpensive sensors measure atmospheric pressure. Most of them are no bigger than the tip of your pinkie.

They have high precision but relatively lower absolute accuracy than table-top barometers. Specifically, the accuracy in measuring absolute pressure is low in these sensors, but their relative pressure accuracy is shown to be as low as ± 1.2 Pa [84,85], with average mobile devices having a resolution of ± 12 Pa [28].
This app uses the barometric pressure sensor built into all the newer iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch Models sold after 2016 with few exceptions. You need one of these newer devices to use this App. See below which older iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch without this sensor are not supported!

They instead use a capacitive pressure sensor, which can detect pressure changes by monitoring fluctuations in electrical capacitance, or ability to collect and store energy in the form of an electrical charge.
Why does my body hurt when barometric pressure is low?
Rain typically comes with a drop in barometric pressure, a measure that refers to the air's weight. Low barometric pressure may irritate sensitive nerves and cause tissues in your body to swell. It makes your muscles, tendons, and any scar tissue contract and expand, creating pain in the joints.
Arthritis: Scientists from the European Project on Osteoarthritis found that with changes in barometric pressure came the expansion and contraction of tendons, muscles, bones, and scar tissue which resulted in pain in the tissues most impacted by arthritis.
Normal barometric pressure, or colloquially put – comfortable air pressure moves between 29 inches and 31 inches. People are most comfortable with barometric pressure of 30 inches of mercury (inHg). When it rises to 30.3 inHg or higher, or drops to 29.7 or lower, the risk of heart attack increases.
Normal pressure at sea level is 1013.3 millibars or 29.92 inches of mercury. Fluctuations in barometric pressure are usually a sign of weather conditions. A rise in pressure usually means improving weather while falling pressure may reflect impending inclement weather.
To check your tire pressure with your hand, push your palm down on the tire to feel the pressure. Low-pressure tires are usually soft and cushiony, while overinflated tires are incredibly stiff. If it feels soft, inflate the tire with more air. Check pressure with your palm gradually as you add air to it.

The skull has several air pockets called sinuses that keep the skull light. When air pressure drops, there is a difference in the pressure of the outside air and the air in your sinuses. This can cause a headache with a small change in pressure.
A barometric reading in the range of 29.80 and 30.20 inHg can be considered normal, and normal pressure is associated with steady weather. If the reading falls between 29.80 and 30.20 inHg (100914.4–102268.9 Pa or 1022.689–1009.144 mb): Rising or steady pressure means present conditions will continue.
Decreasing pressure — which typically ushers in worsening weather — means air presses a little less on our bodies. That lack of compression allows tissues within your body to swell slightly, which can irritate your joints.
It was found that the atmospheric pressure when the patients developed a migraine was within 1003–1007 hPa in the approach of low atmospheric pressure and that the patients developed a migraine when the atmospheric pressure decreased by 6–10 hPa, slightly less than the standard atmospheric pressure.
Does high or low barometric pressure cause migraines?
Barometric pressure, or the weight of the air, falls when the weather is humid and rises when it's dry. When the barometric pressure changes, it can create pressure between the sinuses resulting in a chemical imbalance and headache. A shift in weather can worsen an existing headache or migraine.

Open the Compass app and see if the atmospheric pressure and altitude are displayed at the bottom. If so, your phone does support the barometer function. The barometer is a barometric pressure sensor, consisting of a rheostat and a capacitor.
These ratings imply that they're dust-tight and also protected against immersion in water, and it's effects on the device [16]. A barometer, also known as the air-pressure sensor, is now found in most mid-range to high-end smartphones (e.g. iPhone 6/7/8/X/11, Samsung note 6/7/8/9/10/20, Google Pixel 2/3).
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch, then tap Haptic Touch or 3D & Haptic Touch. Choose the touch duration—Fast or Slow. On an iPhone with 3D Touch, you can also choose the pressure needed—Light, Medium, or Firm. Test your new settings on the image at the bottom of the screen.
