United Reaches Tentative Agreement With Pilots Union
The new deal includes raises of as much as 40.2% over four years, depending on aircraft type. The union estimated the deal is worth about $10 billion.

It seems like they should have just agreed to a contract earlier instead of waiting for a recession. Im not surprised they threw in the towel after all the irrops in the last month.

You have to plan for any forseeable contingency.

Yep. Annual pay usually works out to that x 1000
Somehow despite all the gains we still aren't at pre 9/11 rates adjusted for inflation, and no pension anymore. Still at least now its at the point where pay isn't as big an issue as QOL.
Contract 2000 rates would be like 560 per hour adjusted for inflation.

Does United offer a good 401k option? With Pilot salaries this high, none of these pilots would be able to qualify to contribute to a Roth IRA.

Not 100 percent what they got but if its similar to delta we get 17 percent up to the max 66k or whatever it is then spill cash goes into a mbcbp.

Seems quite easy for these pilots to become multi millionaires provided they have a modicum of spending restraint. With the 401k and the pay rates the loss of pension doesnt sting quite as much Id guess.
Its comforting to know that the people flying us around arent worrying about paying rent and can focus on our safety!

To the pilots, first congrats. Second, I know it is not actually your concern right now, but do you think these rates are sustainable once the supply-demand imbalance of pilots in the USA equalizes? Are you prepared, during the next economic downturn, to make concessions? Because the hourly pay plus profit sharing seems very high in terms of the profit United has reported in the pre-pandemic years. Are you concerned some longhaul routes will not survive, especially if four pilots are needed? In any case, congrats again!
