Every Upcoming Taylor Sheridan TV Show (And Movie) (2024)

There are several Taylor Sheridan shows set for release in the next year or two, including more set in the Sheridanverse — the director's shared universe. Sheridan's rise to fame began with neo-western hit Yellowstone (2018 - ), and Paramount has since created multiple spin-offs, including 2021's1883, and 2022's1923. From there, Sheridan further extended his reach into the comedic drama genre with the unconnected Tulsa King. Considering the number of ongoing and upcoming Taylor Sheridan shows, Paramount seems to be well aware that they have a good thing going on and are throwing their full support behind the Yellowstone creator.

In the last year, Sheridan has consistently put out new content, along with developing what is yet to come. Most recently, Lawmen: Bass Reeves launched on Paramount+, along with his film, Finestkind. Now, Sheridan has a number of other upcoming projects both outside and inside the Yellowstone timeline. Thanks to his success, the filmmaker has worked with some of the most respected actors in the industry, such as Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, Kevin Costner, and Sylvester Stallone, and has become one of the most prolific writers in Hollywood. Unsurprisingly, the list of Taylor Sheridan upcoming shows and movies is extensive.

A Present-Day Yellowstone Series

While its release window is likely far into the horizon, 6666 — or Four Sixes — is officially happening. 6666 is unique from other upcoming Taylor Sheridan shows because it continues the Yellowstone timeline in the present. Yellowstone spinoff 6666 will be focused on the legendary Four Sixes ranch in Texas that turned Jimmy into a cowboy in Yellowstone season 4. Encompassing nearly 225 square miles of land, the real Four Sixes ranch was acquired by Taylor Sheridan in 2022 for a reported $192 million.

As for the plot, Paramount has revealed that 6666 will tell the history of the Four Sixes ranch, which was founded back when West Texas was still ruled by the Comanches. The Four Sixes ranch encompasses an entire county, continues to operate as it did two centuries prior, and is focused on a singular goal: raise the finest livestock and horses on the planet. The Yellowstone season 5 scenes with branded Dutton ranch hand Jimmy and his wife Emily at the Four Sixes ranch in Texas imply that they'll be starring in 6666.

Roughnecks and Billionaires in Texas Oil

While the factions in Yellowstone laid the groundwork for tackling land disputes in Montana, Taylor Sheridan dives deeper into geopolitics with Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton as a crisis manager for an oil company. Set to begin production in 2023, Landman will tell the tales of roughnecks and billionaires alike — oil-rig fortune seekers who are reshaping not just the economy, but the very climate itself. The show is based on the podcast Boomtown, which covers Texas' multi-billion dollar oil industry.

Curiously, Landman, like 6666, is set in Texas. However, much like Tulsa King, it's unclear whether Landman is set in the same universe as the Duttons of Yellowstone. In any case, Landman promises to be a wild political ride starring yet another screen legend, alongside actors like Ali Larter, Demi Moore, and Jon Hamm. Notably, Landman star Billy Bob Thornton already appeared within the Sheridanverse as Marshal Jim Courtright in 1883.

(November 2024) Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2

The final installment of Yellowstone

At the end of 2024, Taylor Sheridan is finally bringing audiences the last installment in Yellowstone: season 5, part 2.

There has also been issues between Sheridan and the show's lead, Kevin Costner, who has stated that he is not returning to the series, although he recently revealed that he would like to come back. Therefore, at this point, little is known about how Yellowstone season 5, part 2 will end.

Regardless, the last segment of Yellowstone is one of Sheridan's most exciting releases of the year. Whether Costner returns or not, it will be interesting to see how the story ends, and in particular, where each of the Dutton children and their peers end up. Yellowstone is the series that started it all for Sheridan, so he certainly needs to stick the landing. In some ways, Yellowstone's ending will reflect on the rest of his work in the future.

Continuing The 1923 Yellowstone Spinoff

Even before the first season finished airing, season 2 of 1923 was confirmed. Unlike the one-off season of the Yellowstone prequel 1883, 1923 was set up to continue for multiple seasons. Season 1 ended with the threat of the Duttons losing their ranch at the hands of Donald Whitfield, while Spencer Dutton was separated from his wife on the voyage back home. Perhaps more intriguing is the plot following Teonna Rainwater as she flees the murderous lawmen and priests on her trail. While no release date for season 2 is confirmed, a 2024 release seems likely.

(TBD) Empire Of The Summer Moon

A movie about Comanche leader Quanah

Another exciting project that Taylor Sheridan has recently put under his belt is the movie adaptation of a book entitled "Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History." The book documents the four-decade long fight between the Comanche Tribe and white settlers to control the American West. According to Deadline, this movie has been a passion project of Sheridan's since it was optioned, and now, he is going to write, produce, and direct the film. Sheridan's new Western has no cast or release date.

A New Yellowstone Expansion

Not much is known about 2024, and Sheridan is keeping his cards close to his chest on the Yellowstone expansion. However, it was revealed by Variety that 2024 will feature both new cast members and locations as well as some crossover characters from Yellowstone. It's unlikely that Costner will appear as John Dutton given that his participation in Yellowstone has been in limbo. Nevertheless, it has been heavily rumored that Matthew McConaughey will be in the lead role, though it has yet to be confirmed.

Will There Be A Mayor Of Kingstown Season 3?

Another Taylor Sheridan show that exists outside of the Yellowstone universe is Mayor of Kingstown. The show stars Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, the head of a family who has been keeping the peace in the titular town — a task beset with challenges as Kingstown and its infrastructure are built on the prison industry. While it doesn't focus on the Dutton family or their ranch, Mayor Of Kingstown has a devoted following, and many anticipate Mike McLusky's return to the small screen.

Currently, there's no news on whether there will or won't be a third season of Mayor of Kingstown. The Taylor Sheridan show recently finished airing its second season in March 2023. There has yet to be any confirmation on the third season, however, that could be due to Jeremy Renner's 2023 injuries which have left the actor on the road to recovery. Once Renner is in a position to return to work, there could be confirmation of Mayor of Kingstown.
